From Student to Pastor: How Pastor Chan Sokhoeurn's Faith Rewrote His Destiny

Introduction
Pastor Chan Sokhoeurn, an international alumni of Handong Global University, is a remarkable pastor and missionary from Cambodia. His journey to faith began as a teenager in 1999, sparking a transformation that led his entire family to embrace Christianity. In 2007, he traveled to Korea for language studies, dreaming of pursuing legal studies at Seoul National University. However, God had other plans when he discovered Handong Global University, a Christian institution that profoundly shaped his future.
A Spiritual Awakening in Handong Global University
At Handong Global University, he found not just academic learning but a deepened spiritual calling. Graduating in 2008 with a law degree, he initially planned to pursue further legal studies. Yet, his encounters with fellow Cambodian workers, who were struggling and seeking support, ignited a passion within him for ministry and service. Moved by compassion, he chose God's work over his legal aspirations, dedicating himself to theological studies.
Leading a Beacon of Hope in South Korea
Today, he is the pastor of Cambodia Sarang Church near Cheonan Station, celebrating a decade of ministry this December.Despite financial challenges, his church has become a beacon of hope for Cambodian immigrants across Korea. From Cheonan to Nonsan, Gunsan to Mokpo, he and his congregation tirelessly evangelize, establish churches, and support their community.
Expanding the Ministry Beyond Borders
The impact of Chan's work extends beyond borders. Together with his church, he supports and nurtures a growing congregation in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh. His vision goes beyond mere congregation growth; he strives to cultivate leaders who embody integrity, generosity, and a deep commitment to God's word.

Reflecting on his journey, pastor Chan attributes his transformation to the community ethos he imbibed at Handong Global University. "To me," he shares with a smile, "Handong Global University is a spiritual Seoul National University!"

As Pastor Chan prepares for his church's 10th anniversary, challenges persist, including health issues and the need for a permanent worship space. Yet, his faith remains unwavering, buoyed by prayers for continued strength, provision, and growth.
